Week 6- Project Ideas/Computers, Arts & Networks

Computers, Arts & Networks

what is the role of networks, for example, the internet, in your project and/or methodology?

  • For the ‘Is it cake or is it real?’ project I will be using P5.js which makes the project relatively accessible as P5.js runs on a web browser. So, I could post a link to it somewhere and people on the internet could access it.

Week 5- Ro bots

If you use social media frequently you interact with bots every time you are on there. Bots on social media generate comments to advertise something. Help chats have also become a common system used by online websites, those chats are run by bots as it is cheaper than having actual people answer questions.

Apps such as Replika are now being developed. Replika is an ai bot that the user can design and then speak to. The app is advertised to be a virtual friend or partner. Robots are also starting to be used in the labour market. For example Din Tai Fung a restaurant in central London use robots to deliver food from the kitchen and table and to take dirty plates to the kitchen.

Week 4- Dataset

Data set:Yellow pens, yellow envelope, yellow nail polish, yellow pencils, yellow socks

yellow things in my room

It can grow but can also be completed quickly. It could be documented through pictures as the data is physically collected you would eventually run out of space.

Notes made after class:

I could expand the dataset and record different colours in my room. Including points such as where these objects were located in my room, what objects they were, how often I use those objects. Then do further research into the significance of colour in one’s personal space.

To take this a step forward I could record other people’s rooms/encourage others to record their rooms

What does it mean to collect personal data

There could be bias if people are recording their own data they could easily manipulate it to get the data they want.

Week 2- Esoteric code

Open closet(function draw(){

fill(247,198,48)
Shirt(torso.x, torso.y, 10)

fill(0)
Trousers(legs.x, legs.y, 12)

})

I struggled to understand the task for this week so I decided to keep my work close to the example.

After speaking with Lizzie I developed my original code.

function setup() {
createCanvas(400, 400);
}

function draw() {
background(220);

makeCereal(“dairy milk”)
putClothesOn()

}

function putClothesOn(shirt,trousers){

return shirt
return trousers

}

function getMilk(milk){

return milk;

}

function makeCereal(milk,cereal){
milk = getMilk(“oat milk”)

}

Week 1- What is a computer and what it can be

A computer is a machine that can follow instructions to perform a range of tasks. Computers were first used for calculations and automating basic tasks like patterns for looms. Computers then developed into tools that humans use on a daily basis. Where they can also connect with people all over the world. In the future, I think computers will be integrated into our lives as much as possible. We might see human beings and computers become one in a cyborg relationship.
